You scored PTE 30. You need PTE 42 (or higher). This guide gives you a 12-week plan to get there.

What PTE 30 Means

PTE 30 equals IELTS Band 4. At this level, you can communicate in simple situations. But you have problems with:

  • Academic vocabulary
  • Complex listening
  • Reading long texts quickly

What PTE 42 Means

PTE 42 equals IELTS Band 5. At this level, you can:

  • Understand most everyday English
  • Read simple academic texts
  • Handle work and travel situations

Many universities and visa programs accept PTE 42 as a minimum score.

The Good News

Reading and listening skills work for all English tests. If you improve your reading for IELTS, your PTE reading will also improve.

Our Band 4 to 5 study plan uses IELTS format. But the skills transfer to PTE.

The 12-Week Overview

Weeks 1-4: Build Your Base

  • Learn 40 new vocabulary words (10 per week)
  • Practice reading easy passages slowly
  • Practice listening to clear, slow speech
  • Take a practice test to see your starting point

Weeks 5-8: Build Speed

  • Start timing your reading practice
  • Practice with medium-difficulty passages
  • Listen to faster, more natural speech
  • Learn question-type strategies

Weeks 9-12: Test Ready

  • Take full practice tests
  • Practice under real test conditions
  • Focus on your weak areas
  • Build test stamina

Why Practice with IELTS Format?

IELTS and PTE test the same skills:

  • Reading: Finding information in passages
  • Listening: Understanding spoken English
  • Vocabulary: Knowing academic words

The formats are different, but the skills are the same. Practice one, improve both.

PTE-Specific Tips

After building core skills, practice PTE format questions:

  • Read Aloud: Practice reading texts out loud clearly
  • Summarize Written Text: Practice writing one-sentence summaries
  • Fill in the Blanks: Similar to IELTS sentence completion
